HUG NEWS 38 29th April 20

Right, it looks like summer has been and gone! Oddly, I find myself relieved that perhaps the steady erosion of social distancing instructions might just be tempered.

All of us I know have our own issues, whether it is concerns and difficulties within our immediate family and close friends that we are having to work through. I want to particularly give a thought to those of our group who are not able to join us on line, they are very much part of our group. In particular at this time for Liz Davenport who is poorly in Hospital with a perforated bowl. Good news as a matter of course she was tested for Covid 19, which was negative. Get well soon Liz. I have sent her an ecard with our thoughts and best wishes.

We have come so far and it would be a real shame to undo the benefits of Social isolation or distancing. Do please keep checking advice on our website.

hugukulele123 it is funny how something that was not even dreamed of 2 months ago is now becoming the norm for us, whether its live streaming or using social media.

As we progress, just take a moment to think about the skills the situation is enabling you to learn, whether it's streaming, recording using apps or social media that you have shied away from. Also, the creative skills you are now resurrecting to keep yourself occupied.

Hug And Lettuce Tuesday night quiz, we have a hard core of Tuesday night quizzers now and first and foremost it is a lot of fun. If you haven't joined us it is not too serious, its largely a chance for us to socially meet up, chat and show variously how much we remember of the 60s. For those who can't remember the songs, well you know what they say - if you can remember you wern't there!

Claim to Fame, thank you to those who have volunteered their claim to fame. As I knew, we all have at least one claim to fame. Here are the latest:-

Mary Hardy has a relative, her name is Nandi Bushell, she's aged 9. She is a famous drummer. Just Google her, Nandi Bushell and watch her jam with Lennie Kravitz. Absolutely brilliant, quite rightly Mary is a very proud Aunty.

Lindsey Lawrence, was a neighbour of Fred Venebles Dad of Terry Venebles. So became friendly with Terry. Holidaying in Barcelona she spent time at the teams private beach with Terry and the players and Spanish FA Officials. Terry also enabled Lindsey to meet Red Rum!

Chrissie Morris, from the Bury Branch of HUG was surprised as a then music teacher by Bob Carolgees and a film crew on the pretence of singing a song to the children that she had sung in 6th Form Choir. In fact it was really about a feature on Cilla Blacks Surprise Surprise. She appeared on the show with Cilla in 1988, after her piece she was surprised by the assembled choir from all over the World from her 6th Form days! What a memorable event.

Geoff Withe was sitting behind Glen Hoddle (Geoff helpfully explains for those who don't know that this was the then England Football Manager!). It was at an Everton v Manchester United game and he leant forward and politely asked could he have his autograph. This was before the second half had started. Glen Hoddles reply was "no, I am here to watch football!!!!! (no wonder he was rubbish as a manager, he was at the wrong ground!!).

1st HUG CELEBRATION For anyone who has missed previous Blogs! On Saturday night we will hold our virtual Birthday Celebration from 7.00pm.

(BUT really want you to take photos on the night of how you joined in, dressing up, food, drinks decorations, you name it).

Information about the celebration on our website

It will be in the Member Area on our site. So as to enable me to prep everything on this area of our website thewus.co.uk I will disable access for a few days.

I need all who will be streaming to visit this part of the website once I send you an email so watch for emails from me and visit the website and members area as soon as you can.

I trialled streaming last Saturday night for a couple of hours to test out that the stream was secure and didn't fall over at that time of the week. All was ok so fingers crossed for the coming Saturday.

I really do hope we are ok but belt and braces, If the stream does go down, or looks as though it will. I will log off and re log back on. Likewise as you know if the screen freezes your end, do the sane log out and back in.

As always its best to be close to your Broadband router, the less physical barriers the better.

Anyway, I am glad for the downturn in the weather as I can get on with prepping stuff! Sorry.

VE Day Celebration, I know we are really concentrating on our Celebration but can I ask you to give some thought to Celebrating VE Day. We will be back to Friday morning Streams and we will play some classic wartime songs. So, once I have collated the songs (about 6) I will post the songs with Chords onto our Music area of the website for you to put in some practice. As we have been doing we will record singalong play along tracks and stream them.

Lets be creative and make the Friday another memorable celebration. So get your thinking caps on I want lots of war time dress, food, recipes bunting and decoration and importantly, any stories of relatives and their role in the war, we can try taking a photo of a photo and sending it. BUT don't send me actual photos!

Ok, needs must I need to close now as I am due for a session with my daughter patiently taking me through some new things!

Look after yourselves and see you on Saturday!

Dave
